Building Spaces of Encounter
Building Spaces of Encounter is a project that we have realized since 2019 documenting and disseminating the working model of our Kolibri Festival in the Helsinki Metropolitan area and across key cites in Finland. The aim of the project is to supports other immigrants’ communities and associations in their efforts to build safe spaces of encounters for families and their children.
The project also provides a network and tools to support integration, intercultural dialogue, and the formation of socially sustainable, diverse and accessible cities by connecting key actors in the field of Childrens’ culture, with a focus on diversity.
The project works around 4 actions:
1) Identifies key actors and similar initiatives and communities that could benefit from the exchange, and could be potential active members of a network.
2) Collaborate with other initiatives (e.g. Cinemaissí ry, organizers of the Latin American Film Festival) to help them document their model
3) Translate and make more accessible the working model of Kolibri we have documented
4) Organize a series of online and face to face workshops sessions to disseminate the models, to generate information exchange and knowledge of good practices amongst a diverse set of immigrant communities and other key actors building active cooperation with municipalities and other ONG’s interested in children culture and diversity.
