Kulttuurikeskus Ninho ry invites associations, organizations, educational and cultural workers to be part of our new project Family Encounters, funded by Moniheli.
This project will be focused on creating a pilot format for encounters, designed for families with small children that belong to the Arabic, Filipino, Hindi, Portuguese and Vietnamese-speaking communities.
Please read carefully what we’re looking for and the criteria, and apply here by 14.5.2025.
Family Encounters project’s goal
The project Family Encounters seeks to strengthen cultural mediation actions for wellbeing, integration and sense of belonging of communities and families. We’ll work especially for families where the children’s primary caregiver is a stay-at-home parent speaking the following heritage languages: Arabic, Filipino, Hindi, Portuguese and Vietnamese.
What are we looking for?
We are looking for ally associations, communities and or educational and cultural mediators with Arabic, Filipino, Hindi, Portuguese and Vietnamese-speaking backgrounds, to submit their proposals for engaging and culturally relevant Family Encounter Events.
We are inviting you to co-create and pilot cultural proposals for families with small children aged 0-2,5 years old, based in Espoo, Vantaa or Helsinki.
Those actors should be interested and motivated to participate in a learning process in designing and facilitating one cultural mediation activity, that will work as an active meeting point and peer support space for families and their children.
Selection criteria:
We will prioritize activities lead by people who:
- Are immigrant students (adults) and workers (educational, cultural and social workers, nurses, etc.) facing social, cultural, or employment-related challenges.
- Are associated with the language and communities the project is focused on.
- Are members or connected to a registered association that works with the communities mentioned above. If the association is part of Moniheli is an advantage.
- The person and the organization need to have residence in Helsinki or the Metropolitan area.
What are the benefits for you or your association
This project is perfect for associations that want to improve or develop actions with integration and inclusive goals, focused on families with small children.
You’ll receive the support and experience of Ninho’s team! We will give you support to:
- Co-create an inclusive and accessible event, based on our previous experiences from other similar spaces we have facilitated in other languages.
- Understand the ecosystem and possibilities to host community-based events.
- Create a marketing strategy for events.
- Pay compensation expenses to facilitate the event.
- Expand your network among a peer-support environment of associations, and work on developing projects that will help the well-being of your community.
- Participate in 3 professional training courses in community-centered projects (26.5.2025), intercultural communication (2.6.2025) and hospitality (9.6.2025), during May 2025.
This is a fantastic opportunity for members of your association who want to showcase their expertise and develop a project with a high social positive impact. They will be engaging with stay-at-home parents and their small children, promoting their inclusion in community actions and, consequently, their well-being. Also, it’s a project to gain lots of expertise in producing events, managing projects, and developing community building.
